Meet Catherine

Founder of Flequity Ventures.

Nearly 30 years ago, Catherine Fitzpatrick met a woman who changed her life. The woman had suffered a terrible crime which shocked the community and catapulted Catherine into lifelong learning about domestic abuse.

For the last decade, Catherine has led business and industry-wide initiatives and advised governments on the hidden epidemic of financial abuse. A former bank executive, in 2019 she uncovered widespread abuse in online banking transactions and spearheaded whole-of-industry reforms to crack down on the practice.

Today, she’s the international authority on financial safety by design. Leading brands go to her for expert advice and practical solutions to protect their customers and enhance their risk management and reputation.

A Flequity Initiative

Australian businesses unite against financial abuse

respect & protect is a national initiative aimed at combatting financial abuse, particularly in the context of gender-based violence. The campaign calls on businesses across Australia to take proactive steps in preventing the misuse of their products and services in financial abuse scenarios, which often involve perpetrators using financial control as a form of coercion against victims, typically women.

“Australia is facing a national crisis of violence against women. Everyone has a role to play and this action from businesses is essential if we are to end domestic, family and sexual violence in a generation. I encourage all businesses to understand the important role they have to respect and protect their customers.”

Micaela Cronin, Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commissioner
